Information about your visit

If you are planning a visit to the castle, please book your group in advance by telephone or email. Unfortunately, we cannot allow groups to visit the castle museum without a prior booking. We thank you for your understanding.

On the second floor, the exhibition ‘Wesentliches’ by the North German realist Lars Möller will be on display from 17 May 2026 to 31 October 2026 during the castle’s opening hours.

We ask for your understanding that Ahrensburg Castle is not accessible to people with disabilities – and, unfortunately, cannot be accessed by wheelchair users. The building, which is over 440 years old, has no lifts, only a historic staircase dating from 1765. The ground floor is accessible to a limited extent for people with walking difficulties; however, please be aware of the high historic thresholds between the individual rooms.

The toilets are located in the cellar.

The audio guide is free to use. Of course, there is also an app (in German, English and for children) available, which you can download free of charge either at home or on site.

Photography is only permitted using a smartphone (mobile phone) without a flash. Commercial photography requires the management’s approval and must be requested in good time.

Please note that children are subject to special protection – therefore, third parties are not permitted to take photographs of children’s events within the castle. Please also respect people’s right to their own image. No other people may be photographed. Wedding and private photography are not permitted in the castle or the castle grounds outside of wedding ceremonies and events booked on site.

The wedding rooms can be hired for a ‘photo shoot’. You can find the prices and venues under the ‘Weddings’ section. The prices quoted are based on a usage period of 30 minutes.

Please note that Ahrensburg Castle is a foundation under civil law and that any commercial use of the castle and grounds is subject to authorisation and a fee.

We ask for your understanding that dogs are not permitted in the museum.

The castle and the park are owned by the private Schloss Ahrensburg Foundation and are listed buildings. To ensure that all visitors can experience and enjoy this garden undisturbed, we kindly ask you to observe the following rules:

The park’s opening hours follow those of the museum: open daily from 11.00 to 17.00 from March to October, except on Mondays and Fridays; and open only on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11.00 to 17.00 from November to February. The park closes at the end of these times. Entry to the park and use of its facilities are at your own risk.

To protect the historic gardens and ensure a peaceful atmosphere for all visitors, it is NOT permitted:

• to drive motor vehicles onto the island or park them there without special permission
• To ride a bicycle
• To throw away or leave behind rubbish of any kind
• To light fires or have barbecues
• To climb trees or sculptures
• Playing music or performing
• Carrying out commercial activities such as trading, distribution or promotional campaigns
• Entering the water when it is frozen
• The use of drones is not permitted
• Commercial guided tours not organised by the Foundation, as well as photography, film and television recordings for commercial purposes, require the Foundation’s prior written consent.
• We ask that you keep dogs on a short lead and clear up after them immediately.

Failure to comply with or breaches of these park regulations may result in expulsion from the park. We reserve the right to report such incidents to the police. Visitors may be photographed or filmed for security and evidential purposes.
