Fine porcelain, an elegant tablecloth, golden cutlery: this is probably how every child imagines a table laid in a fairytale castle!

To dress for the occasion, the children choose a suitable outfit from the costume collection (please bring a T-shirt to wear underneath). On a tour of the castle, the party takes a journey through time and learns a great deal about the castle and its inhabitants.

Cake and drinks are then served in the festively decorated dining room.

To round off the day, the children make a keepsake to remember the special occasion.

Guided tour for children

Age aged 6 and over years

There’s plenty to discover in the castle, even for children!

Guided tour for children

There’s plenty to discover in the castle, even for children!

It begins right in the entrance hall, where two of six magnificent horse harnesses hang. Made of fine leather and adorned with gold-coloured fittings, they once adorned the count’s horses and caused quite a stir. And instead of wallets and money boxes, people used to keep their money in iron chests, which were so heavy that burglars couldn’t carry them off.

There are fascinating stories like this behind many of the exhibits. And anyone wondering how the candles in the grand chandeliers were lit will find out here. To round off the tour, a flute clock over 200 years old plays a tune, and perhaps someone might even take to the dance floor for a little dance…

Other offers

Object hunt:

Sets of cards depicting various objects from the palace are available at the museum ticket office. You’ll need to look closely, as sometimes only parts of the objects are visible. Who can find the most objects? Even the very youngest children can join in, as the cards come in different levels of difficulty.

Audio guide:

What’s that? Is that a lion roaring? Is that a Rococo sofa telling its story over there? And what does all this have to do with the castle and its inhabitants?

Listeners will find out in this special audio guide for children. Across 24 tracks, children will learn lots of interesting and curious facts about the house and its history. What makes it special is that a child guides the young visitors through the rooms. And the furnishings get a say too.

The audio guide offers an unusual and highly entertaining tour that brings the castle and its history to life – and not just for children.
